Dear reader, an experience may await you here that is something you have always dreamed about--finding the perfect home. The homes oozes appeal from the moment you pull up in front.
All great houses start with the right piece of land, and this one is something to behold. Located in the very back of the Woodland Park neighborhood, the home is also on a cul-de-sac for added privacy.

Don't think "lot". Think hill country. It is 1.41 acres (in a regular subdivision, that is enough land for 6-7 houses), and it is longer than a football field. There are three distinct sections of this setting--manicured in front, the spa-like setting of the pool, and the pristine terrain in back.

About The House, Wait Til You See The Stained Concrete Floors
You enter the home through a set of custom-made oversized Cantera doors of glass with swirling metal inset pieces in a fleur-de-lis pattern. From here the design spills out in front of you--high ceilings and huge windows that bathe the house in natural light. If you wanted to teach architecture students how to orchestrate the exotic combination of textures, surfaces and materials for an organic palette, this would be the ideal demonstration. One of the home's most striking elements are the stained concrete floors that course all through the house. The color is best-described as having a copper-colored patina, and you have never seen a floor with this caliber of high-gloss finishing.

All of the cabinets are made from expensive Alder wood--the preferred material when striving for a natural look because you actually see the grain and knots in the wood.

The interior stone was hand-picked with an interesting twist. In most homes, the smooth side is used which results in a uniform surface and a consistent white color. When these stones arrived the sellers realized that using the rough side added a hand-hewn appearance, and it allowed the veins of iron to show through which compliments the similar color in the stained floors.

A Very Custom Kitchen
The kitchen at this house is off-the-chart wow! There are two dishwashers. Two sinks. Two spice drawers. A double oven so you can cook a turkey in one, bread in the other. Count the number of cabinets and drawers in your present kitchen, and compare it to this one--44 cabinets and drawers which gives you enough storage to organize large pots, special utensils and holiday dishes. Lower cabinets have pull-out shelves, and drawers have "soft-close" rollers. There are also cabinets made just for pizza pans and cookie sheets.

Also note the curved cantina-style bar. When you invite friends over they can have a drink at the bar or walk around and help with one of the dishes. How fun is that! Now try this. Glance up at the kitchen photo and imagine you are standing there. The beams not only add rustic elegance, but they subconsciously direct your line-of-sight back out to the wide view that extends through the house, to the terrace, to the gardens, to the pool, all the way out to the hill country beyond.

The house actually sits on a hill, and when the leaves drop off the trees in the winter, you get a miles-long vista. The house conforms to the gentle slope of the lot--please pass if you need everything on one level as there are steps here--coming in from the garage and some down to reach the right wing of the house where the master is located.

One Of The Owners Used To Manage A Spa
You may decide to reach for your checkbook when you step onto the terrace. In many cases you look at a home with a pool, and it is shaped in rectangular form and stuck in the back yard by itself. One of the owners used to manage a high-end spa, and this experience was put to good use here. For starters, the organically-shaped pool is pulled in close to the house so that it serves as a water element for the house.

There are two waterfalls and fountains so you can enjoy the soothing sound of running water when you are in the house. A long, deep covered terrace spans the back of the house. Consider the uses--start weekends here with fresh coffee, write a letter to an old friend, or curl up with a good book. Do you love to set a "cute" table? Live here and you can have an al fresco lunch with fresh flowers from your garden. You can enjoy a glass of wine and take in a star-filled sky at night. And when is the last time you went skinny dippin' with your sweetie?

If you are new to Texas you may regret buying a home if the pool is on the west side of the house--the glaring summer sun is simply too intense. Here, the pool is on the east side--much preferred because the terrace and pool are in the shade in the afternoon making it ideal for cookouts, swimming and parties.

How To See This Home
The owners are empty nesters and have no pets--you could film a "Mr. Clean" commercial here. The setting is private, lush and scenic. You will give high marks for the design and quality of materials. It is an ideal home for anyone who likes to cook, wants a pool, enjoys nature and would love a sprawling and colorful garden. Serious inquiries only please. Shown by appointment with a one-day notice. To see call your agent. The seller is represented by Stan Barron Properties, 512.626-4911.
