Here is a quick test to know if this may be the right home for you: When you look at "for sale" houses in regular subdivisions, do you feel pinched in by how close the houses are to each other?Ladies and gentlemen welcome to the feeling of independence that can only come by owning a house with some land. The address is 710 South Gabriel in Leander, Texas 78641 (just off 183 and north of 1431).

Being Sold By Original Owner
These are the original owners, and you will give them high marks for their design plan. For starters, consider just how much land 3.7 acres takes in. From the street, the lot goes back 650 feet. That is longer that two football fields! The property has two distinct sections--the front half is beautiful pasture land. The house and all improvements are way in the back tucked under a forest of trees. This has several benefits. First, it maximizes privacy by placing the house so far back from the road--you see nothing from the street. Now, just imagine all the uses for the cleared pasture land. Live here, and you can create a farm-to-table experience by growing vegetables and producing your own eggs. You could plant grapevines and start a vineyard. Or make the pasture part vegetable garden with another section for flowers. Learn about beekeeping. If you have children or grandchildren, use the sprawling pasture for football or baseball practice.

Outbuildings And Workshop
Here is where things get really interesting--there's an array of outbuildings. The main house includes an attached 2-car garage. There's also a detached compound of four structures to the left of the main house. Two of those are garages, and the third bay is a massive, 40x40' bay (large enough for an RV). If you have ever dreamed of a workshop, here is your chance. There is a full bath, washer/dryer connections and electric service for 220v. Behind these three bays is a greenhouse--perfect for tending to herbs and seasonal flowers.

As you can tell from the photograph at the top of this page, any gardener will swoon when she strolls through the lush grounds that surround the stone house. The owner has also created an oasis for birds. You not only get the regional favorites like blue jays and cardinals, but the natural setting attracts seasonal migrators like goldfinches and orioles. Other cute critters live here like squirrels and raccoons. Deer are routinely seen grazing in the pasture.

The house (see floorplan in next page) itself has about 2,104 square feet (per owner). The home has two bedrooms (master down and one upstairs), space was left in the attic where you can build out a third bedroom in the future.

When planning the design, the owners added some pleasing extras. Think about where you live now--notice this design flaw--a tiny pantry. A better solution is found here--a long, walk-in pantry so you can buy in bulk and never run out of anything. The utility room has added floor space. Do you sew? Need an office? You can use this area for any hobby. And just off the kitchen, there is a window-clad sun room that overlooks the back yard setting--just the spot to have coffee in the morning or curl up with a good book on a spring day.
